2008 Junior Monarch Sir Ruel became the first reigning Junior Monarch to make it into the senior finals when the Pic-O-De-Crop finalists were announced this morning.
The 19-year-old talent from the House of Soca gave two outstanding performances of Ready For De Monarchy and Where Are The Calypsonians at LIME/Banks Pic-o-de-Crop Semifinals at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
He will join former monarchs John King, Red Plastic Bag (De Big Show) and Bumba (Headliners) in next Friday’s Lime/Banks Pic-O-De-Crop Final at Kensington Oval.

Also making the finals were Colin Spencer (Cave Shepherd All Stars), Blood (Headliners), HeeHaw (House of Soca), TC and Sheldon Hope (De Big Show).

Tassa of the Cave Shepherd All Stars was declared the reserve.

Red Plastic Bag excited the large crowd with his first-half performance of Home Drums and then further captivated them with Something Happening, the only act on the night that led fans to take to the floor in front the stage.

HeeHaw will make his first appearance in the finals and was impressive with Black Man Struggling and Ain’t Fooling Around.

Blood oozed class with his renditions of The Long Haul and We Looking At It, while King was the consummate professional with My Caribbean and Heaven

Bumba with The End Justifies The Means and Yes, We Can also impressed, as did Sheldon Hope with Last Days and Character. Spencer’s Inclusion In Reverse and Where Do We Go From Here were solid performances.

TC’s inclusion after performing Gimme A Ruler and Stop Domestic Violence caused some debate.

Others competing were Smokey Burke, Kid Site, Ras Iley, Romeo, Sammi Jane, Ishiaka, Mr Impact and Classic. The 18 contestants were judged on lyrics (40 points), melody (35) and rendition (25). (WG)
