A
TOTAL of 21 bands has been registered to jump in Junior Kadooment this
year, up from 16 year last year.
Registration
for the Grand Kadooment stands at 26, down by one from last year.
Aja,
producer of the Grand Kadooment and Junior Kadooment bands, reported
that several new bands have registered for the adult mas'.
He
told DAILY NATION the increase in the kiddies' bands could be traced to
the National Cultural Foundation's (NCF) schools' programme coordinated
by designer Suzanne Phillips. The outreach has resulted in ten primary
schools entering bands for the junior parade.
This
year, the juniors will be returning to the National Stadium after the
parade was abandoned following some difficulties at Kensington Oval last
year.
The
confusion saw several parents being barred from entering the venue and
being cut off from their children.
Some
parents who could not access their children after they paraded before
the judges had even vowed that they would not participate again unless
the Kadooment was returned to the National Stadium.
Aja
is promising better coordination and security measures to ensure last
year's problems don't recur.
The
youngsters will assemble at Lawrence T. Gay, Spooners Hill, St Michael,
and then move through Stadium Road entering through the Nova Scotia
Gate. They will parade around the track and exit through the Lumber
Company Gate.
This
year, with the Grand Kadooment resorting to the original route, the
revellers will meet at the southern side of the stadium. After entering
through the Nova Scotia gate for the parade around the stadium they will
exit the Lumber Company Gate, on to Combermere, Station Hill, Eastmond
Corner, Bank Hall, Eagle Hall, Black Rock, left at Brighton and on to
Spring Garden Highway.
"The
NCF and the bandleaders intend to make this Kadooment a good one,"
Aja said. "There were site meetings since April to get the problems
eliminated."
